How We Tow AWD and Lowered Vehicles

All-wheel-drive and lowered cars should ride a flatbed in New Orleans, not trail behind a wheel-lift. When two wheels stay on the pavement and the other two are driven, you can wear a transfer case or a clutch pack in a few miles. When the splitter sits an inch off Magazine Street, a standard lift scrapes it. Flatbed tows start at $95 plus $4 per mile. We quote that on the phone, arrive in about 30 minutes in the metro, and work 24/7. Call (504) 414-8034 and say “AWD” or “lowered” in the first sentence.

This page is the equipment explainer behind our flatbed towing service. It is written for daily AWD crossovers, weekend cars in Uptown, and luxury SUVs in Lakeview. Standard rolling sedans can still use light-duty wheel-lift rates from $75 plus $4 per mile when that is the right tool.

Why wheel-lifts and AWD fight each other

A wheel-lift hangs two wheels and lets the other pair rotate on the road. On a two-wheel-drive car, the free pair is often the non-driven end. On AWD, the system may still try to send torque through a path that is now spinning at the wrong speed. A few miles of that is how you buy a shop visit you did not need.

Lowered cars fail a different test. The lift arm and the ramp lip meet the air dam first. Once you scrape, you are in bumper-cover money. A flatbed with long ramps changes the angle. That is the entire argument for the $95 hook-up.

How we load a sensitive car

  1. You call (504) 414-8034 and say AWD, 4WD, lowered, or luxury so we do not assign a lift.
  2. We quote $95 plus $4 per mile and a 30-minute-class metro ETA.
  3. The driver walks the car, notes lips, and picks chassis or wheel-net points — not control arms.
  4. We winch slowly onto the deck, strap, and transport with the parking brake set as the car requires.
  5. We unload onto level ground at the shop or driveway you named.

Uptown and Lakeview notes

Oak-lined Uptown streets and packed Magazine blocks need a shorter bed or a staged load. Lakeshore and Harrison see newer AWD crossovers that look “normal” until you hook the wrong truck. If the car is also in a ditch, add a winch-out before the load. After a crash, use accident recovery so loose bodywork is strapped before we climb the ramps.

Ask for the bed. We will not upsell a Civic that does not need one. Verified September 2026.

Licensed, insured, family-owned. For the dollar math, see towing costs in New Orleans. For the truck page, stay on flatbed towing.

“The expensive part is not the extra twenty dollars on the hook-up. The expensive part is pretending a lowered AWD car is a 1998 front-drive Civic. Tell us the truth about ride height and we will send ramps, not excuses.”

Got Questions?

That is the wrong picture. Dollies still leave part of the car behaving like a trailer. We put AWD on a flatbed so no driveline is turning. If a bed cannot reach the block, we discuss a short reposition, not a long wheel-lift drag.
Yes. We use long, low ramps and a slow winch for cars with lips and side skirts. Tell us about splitters and aftermarket exhaust. We would rather take another minute than fold a carbon lip on Magazine Street.
For towing purposes, yes: keep the vehicle fully on the deck. Transfer cases and locking diffs do not enjoy being half-rolled down I-10. Say 4WD, AWD, or “it drives all four” and we assign a bed.
That is why we carry low-clearance equipment and use a winch instead of driving the car up. If the approach is still too steep, we change the truck angle or use blocks. We do not “just yank it” and hope the bumper survives.
If you want zero trailing-wheel wear and cleaner photos for a dealer, yes. Many lease contracts frown on the wrong tow method. The $95 starting rate is cheaper than a wear argument at turn-in.
